'Designing for all' is a practical one-day Headstar Training course designed to introduce public sector organisations to the importance of designing accessible, easy to read information for a range of different audiences.
In a society which now includes a large proportion of disabled people, people for whom English is not their first language and an ageing population, it is imperative that all your organisation's information is written and designed as accessibly and inclusively as possible. This includes both traditional media such as leaflets and reports, and new media such as the web.
This course will be of crucial value to anyone who is involved in the design and delivery of information in print, electronic and web formats, including web content managers; web content teams; marketing and communications officers; and publications staff. By the end of the course, attendees will be armed with the fundamental knowledge and guidelines necessary to provide accessibly designed information in both print and electronic formats.
Specifically, this course will help you:
* assess current design and content of information - please bring examples
along of your current information for us to assess in our 'document
clinic'
* follow an inclusive model to improve accessibility across your communications
mix
* assess specific audience needs, identifying ways to communicate in
an accessible way
* see how different formats/styles work for different audiences
* keep abreast of the latest developments in accessible formats and
assistive technologies
* carry on learning, with an inclusive takeaway guide and checklist
to designing and producing accessible information.
